Ode to Humboldt

I’ve never known a place quite like this.

Never before have I felt such a deep sense of belonging—of acceptance, affection, camaraderie, and connection. There is something woven into the fabric of Humboldt that has changed me. Something that has quietly taught me what it means to be part of a community.

Of course, part of what makes this place magical is the land itself.

The ancient redwoods standing watch over us.
The wild Pacific Ocean breathing against the shore.
The rivers winding through forests and valleys.
The fog that rolls in like a story.
The mountains, the meadows, the endless green.

But the landscape, beautiful as it is, tells only half the story.

The true heart of Humboldt is its people.

The artists who dare to create.
The dreamers who imagine better worlds.
The musicians, teachers, healers, farmers, storytellers, volunteers, activists, parents, elders, and children.
The neighbors who show up when someone is struggling.
The friends who become family.
The communities that gather around campfires, theaters, gardens, classrooms, festivals, and kitchen tables.

You have shown me what community can be.

You have welcomed me when I felt lost.
Encouraged me when I doubted myself.
Celebrated my victories.
Held space for my grief.
Made room for my quirks, my creativity, my healing, and my becoming.

Because of you, I have found parts of myself I didn’t know existed.

You have allowed me to grow into a version of myself I never dreamed possible.

You taught me that belonging isn’t something we earn.
It’s something we create together.

So this is my love letter to Humboldt.

To the towering trees and rushing rivers.
To the fog and the ocean.
To the theaters and toy stores.
To the artists and misfits.
To the healers and helpers.
To the old friends and the new ones still arriving.

Thank you for reminding me that home is more than a place.

Home is the feeling of being seen.

Home is the feeling of being welcomed.

Home is the feeling of being loved.

And because of all of you, Humboldt will always be home. ❤️🌲✨
